Rain and snow is welcome, but they will not erase months of drought in the short term in Arizona

After months of dry weather, Arizona residents woke up to a rare scene on Friday morning: rainy sky and snow streets. But early spring storms throughout the state will not erase one of the worst dehydration in the short term.

From TUCSON to Flagstaff, low -pressure system brought lower temperatures than normal and precipitation to a case in urgent need of moisture. Since the end of the seasonal wind last year, Arizona has entered one of the worst drought in the short term.

But this week’s storms will not regain a month -long deficit.

“Any quantity of snow or rain that we are going through the rest of the spring will be useful and can help at the beginning of the extinguishing season, but we are unlikely to put in our dry conditions to this point,” said Valery Mila, a meteorological specialist in the national weather service in Flagstav.

Phoenix published the second longest dry talisman ever, as it lasted 159 consecutive days without measurable rain from August 23, 2024 to January 29. On Friday, a storm brought 0.32 inches of rain by midday, with more showering at a later time, easily bypassing 0.03 inches from Harbor Harbour Airport, registered since August.

Snow in Flagstaf, shower in Tuxon

A winter storm that touched the need in Flagstad Thursday night, leaving 10.1 inches of snow at Flagstad Airport as of 11 am on Friday. The storm closed parts of the 17th and 40 Highway, and Mulla expects a few other inches as it continues to snow on the rest of the day.

This reaches the total snow in Flagstaff to 25.6 inches since July 1, but this is still less than usual – an average snow during the period is 72.4 inches.

Toxon also saw a light shower, as he recorded 0.05 of the rain. This is followed by the second oldest winter for meteorological in Toxon, with just 0.25 of the rain for the entire season.

“The storm truly the eye of the bull on Arizona’s state this time instead of New Mexico.” “We haven’t seen it long ago, and I think it will be useful in the short term.”

The soil throughout Arizona is very dry after months of minimal rain. This system can reduce dust over the next few weeks, leading to air cleansing after Phoenix injury with unusual spring storms last week.

It is possible that this system has arrived late in the wet season to compensate for drought in the short term, and it is possible that any melting snow leaks into the soil instead of running from the water gatherings in Arizona and in the water supply.

Will the storm delay forest fires?

This week’s moisture can help delay the wilderness activity, but not much.

Firefighters and climate scientists fear that Arizona will see a severe threat of wilderness in the next few months due to the conditions of the record in the air and on the ground.

“I bet that this buys a week or two,” said Crimminins. “The snow that will be placed will be useful in the short term with the dangers of fire, but unfortunately, it’s very late this season, and it will do very little for us in the long run.”
